CAMI Takes us Bowling, to La Patio, and Swimming

Posted by: dfanderson | March 19, 2009 | No Comment |

This is our school carnaval week at Grosse Ile School. Today CAMI took all the students on a fieldtrip to Grindstone for the day.  First stop was the bowling alley where it was very busy and competitive for a couple of hours as young to old students bowled happily.

After bowling we had pizza and garlic fingers at La Patio Restaurant. All enjoyed the delicious lunch.

Last, it was on to the pool for a good swim.  Many parents joined us for the event. Thanks for the help and many thanks to CAMI and organizer, Jenny Dickson.

Here is our leprechaun story! We hope you enjoy it!

St. Patrick’s Day

Once upon a time there was a leprechaun.  He was digging for gold in a field full of long grass.  A little boy trying to find his soccer ball almost stepped on the wee little leprechaun.  The leprechaun yelled, ” Yeeoow!”.  The little boy saw the leprechaun and tried to catch him.  He tried to put him in his net.  The leprechaun said, “You can’t catch me.  I am too fast and tricky!”  As he ran away the leprechaun tripped over a tiny stone and dropped his gold.  The little boy grabbed it and ran all the way home.  He was rich.

The End

Here are some pictures of our class making shamrocks and coloring leprechauns.

It has been an exciting and awesome afternoon for our Prekindergarten and Kindergarten Class at Grosse Ile School.

At 1:15pm Atlantic time we were contacted by the kindergarten class at Forestburg to do some activities together by videoconferencing equipment.

As part of a project with LEARN-CEFRIO I have been doing many collaborative technology projects during the last two years.  Late last year Joanne McMahon expressed interest in doing a project with our school and we agreed to get started this past fall.  Since the fall we set up a community wiki along with another school in St. Jean sur Richelieu. (The link is found on the right side of the blog.)
In December Joanne and I spoke about doing some winter activities by videoconferencing. We were excited that the classes could meet this way. It wasn’t easy. We both had to learn how the equipment worked and see how we could test and if we could hook up. We also prepared the children for the experience and practised songs.
Today’s activity consisted of introductions to each other. We did several winter songs and poems and the ABC song. Joanne and I took turns reading Sadie and the Snowman. The children also told one thing they liked about winter.  We also had informal discussions about the weather differences, vocabulary differences, and time differences between the two communities.
Congratulations to all the children. They were very well behaved and did a fantastic job.
Thanks to Forestburg for a wonderful opportunity.Grosse Ile PreK-K Waiting to meet the others.

What’s New!

Posted by: dfanderson | January 25, 2009 | No Comment |

Check out the new page located at the top of our blog called Our Events.

I have added a calendar of upcoming events that you can click on to see what’s coming up.

Please Note:  I have decided to have no prekindergarten and kindergarten afternoon classes on Thursday, Feb. 12th instead of Friday that week so our class can celebrate Valentine’s Day on Friday with the rest of the school.

We will be having a red and pink day and children can dress in those colors. I will have special activities that day for the class.

Our Christmas Concert

Posted by: dfanderson | January 18, 2009 | 1 Comment |

Our class was part of the school’s Christmas concert on Wed. Dec 17th.  We had a terrific time and worked very hard to learn our parts.
The two kindergarten boys, Noah and Sean, welcomed everyone to the concert and did a wonderful job telling each other and the audience some superb Christmas jokes.  They certainly have great smiles and good sense of humour.

The PreK and K did the song Ten Little Elves.  They got a bit mixed up but tried real hard and everyone thought they were a great crowd pleaser.
For the finale, the little ones got to act out the manger scene while the older children sang their last few songs.  Great job, everyone!

Firefighter Visit

Posted by: dfanderson | December 11, 2008 | No Comment |

On Thursday, December 11th, 2008 the PreK and K had a visit from the Grosse Ile Volunteer Firefighters.  Fire chief, Paul Clarke, has been involved  in many visits to the class in the past years and continues to help teach the children about fire safety.

During this visit Paul taught the children what to do in case of a fire in their house, including planning an escape route.  They also talked about smoke detectors, why they shouldn’t play with matches and lighters, and stop – drop – roll.  The children were able to see some of the firefighter’s tools and special clothes.

The fire chief and captain presented each child with a certificate.

Thanks to all for a great afternoon.  We look forward to visiting the firestation in the new year.

My Kindergarten Class of 2008-2009

Posted by: dfanderson | October 14, 2008 | 2 Comments |

My ten little ones this year!<

I am so excited to start a blog this year for my class.  I think it is a great tool to share our class’ discoveries with everyone.  I am new to blogging, so I hope you will enjoy and come along for the ride.  We’ll discover together.

My class of kindergarteners keep me very busy this year!  We have nine boys and one girl!  We also have seven four-year olds and only three five-year olds.  We are settling in slowly but are getting more comfortable in the class and school setting.

September was busy.  We had our back to school activities with parents and were introduced to the two school teams, the Golden Falcons and the Blue Eagles.  We worked on our school and community themes.  We also had our Terry Fox Walk.  This year we had a special bake sale and it was a huge success!
